Fall Outerwear Favorites

I haven’t written a fashion piece in almost a year, and it’s unbelievably disappointing. It’s not because I didn’t have anything to write about, but more so that I wanted to fashion section of this blog to actually be fashionable. However, I’ve been getting into the fall season quite heavily this year so it was only natural I share a few favorites.

In September, my boyfriend pointed out my beige leather jacket was beginning to deteriorate. I was just getting used to the darn jacket and had to say ‘goodbye’ rather quickly. But as always, New York & Company came to the rescue!

First up is the replacement, Faux-Leather Moto Jacket in black. I was a bit skeptical going with another leather piece, but I scored BIG on this one. Casually browsing, the shiny black piece spoke to me – and for $29 I couldn’t say no (yes, I paid $29 for a $90 jacket and I’m not ashamed – own it!). I’ve worn it a couple of times and it’s comfortable, fits my business cards and metro-card (because I carry the two together – duh), and doesn’t suffocate girls. For now, I’ve included a photo from the NY & Company website (sorry!), but will have photos of me in it soon.

Next is the jacket I initially ordered online, before running into the above at the store during pick-up. I had been wanting something a little heavier than a quick-jacket fix, but lighter than an actual coat. For those who haven’t experienced it, we’ve been having some pretty off-putting weather in NYC lately and I refuse to get sick. Naturally, this Quilted Zip-Front Jacket caught my eye and I fell in love with the brown option (which I’ve never done). I ordered it in an XL and had it set for in-store pickup so I could try it on. And here’s what happened.

The sales associate was extremely supportive because like some, I am a little conscious of how things look on me. Having a big back, this jacket did not fit me at first. I thought, ‘How can I layer under this without ripping it or suffocating?’ I gave it back to the woman and walked around (this is when I found the leather jacket). When I went to the register, I tried it on again and the associate and her colleague both said to take it home, wear it around the house and return it if I didn’t like how it fit. Needless to say, I wore it the next day with a blazer underneath and I had no problems. The jacket itself is super light and comfortable – I highly recommend. It retails for $80, but I got a super steal and only paid $29. However, if you’re reading this on October 22nd, it’s on sale at 50%.

To be completely honest, I’ve never had such a simple shopping experience as I’ve had with NY & Company this last year. For the fall, I’ve always stayed in hoodies, but now I can embrace my curves and love for fashion with a brand that knows women. Though I wish their stores had more of a selection for larger sizes, I highly recommend shopping at NY & Company. Sign up for their emails because you will not believe the deals and savings you will get. Trust me – it’s worth it.
