Disney Quinceanera

We all know that Disney has decided to have a number of wedding gowns that resemble those of our favorite princesses, right? What if I told you that according to the latest Latina Magazine link that appeared on my Facebook, that Disney now has princess inspired Quinceanera gowns?

Belle w/ruffles

Pocahontas (Turquoise)

I'll be 21 this fall and I remember planning my quinceanera in 2006-2007, but I don't remember having as many options. Earlier today I was browsing Facebook and a few online magazines for inspiration and I came across Disney inspired quinceanera gowns. Is our society growing and do our young ladies need more options? Yes, why not? There are about two (2) dresses per princess, with some having one or two more options. This will allow our young Latina women to see themselves in a Disney gown without it being a wedding gown (unless she wishes to have a traditional white gown). The latest trends in quinceanera parties is color and individuality (believe me, I'm beginning to plan my sister's for summer 2014 and she's picked out some pretty "unique" pieces and themes). I guess I can say that I am a fan of the collection (my favorite is Mulan's two gowns...no pressure), however I am curious to see what retailers will be carrying them, especially in New York.

If you're currently on the prowl for a gown, don't stress it. Quince shopping is so much fun and with this new collection, I'm sure you and your mujeres will love trying on true princess gowns. Happy shopping!

A Gatsby Wedding

Lights, sparkle, beading, the whole nine yards. This season, brides are flaunting The Great Gatsby inspired gowns, decor, and so much more in the wedding scene. Why the sudden flare-up of the 1920s? That's simple: It's a classic.

Brides are booking appointments for wedding gowns, and with the recent release of The Great Gatsby, beaded gowns, glam and romantic sleeves are making their way into a closet near you. According to The Knot's wedding segment for upcoming Fall 2013 and Spring 2014, the film is inspiring parties all over. But what else could be inspired by this classic novel?

The menu. Having a formal sit-down reception (lunch or dinner) is the first step in re-creating a Gatsby scene. Don't choose anything too crazy, but keep in mind that classic foods are a staple to any wedding, regardless of the theme is best Buffets are usually the reception of choice, but in the 1920s the preferred style was a formal sit down (at least from my observations) dinner. This not only allowed for a more formal atmosphere, but it also allows mingling between parties during the celebration. And for those who love desserts, if you're planning on having a cake or cupcakes (or even a dessert bar), white or ivory icing (or detailing) with pearls and edible glitter is marvelous!

Decor. Presentation is everything and with feathers, pearls, and glam all adding up to equal "classic", brides are adding a sexy spin both on the gown and at the reception. Now, how can one take a room and attain a classic and elegant show? Hiring the right designers. Event planners are fabulous for planning your big day, all of the appointments that lead up to it, and even when you need a shoulder to cry on when you get stressed, but having an event designer will allow you to see your big day as a production.

The dress. All brides want to be the center of attention (it's their big day, so why not?) and with that comes finding the perfect dress. Beading, glitter, cap sleeves, and sheer materials are all found in the upcoming Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 wedding gowns. With a theme such as Gatsby or the 1920s, much can be done with these styles and they inspire so much for the entire wedding, not just one aspect.

Bottom line: Enjoy the big day and don't forget the glamor! You only get one wedding day, so make it the best in town!

Lace Me Up!

With wedding trends changing on a seasonal and yearly basis, there's no question that trends are rotating out. There are 20 trends that have been identified by 20 influential wedding bloggers; think you know what they are? Well, I've picked the two trends pertaining to wedding dresses that I think you'll find not only interesting and fresh, but sophisticated and unique. Lace and pockets.

Lace has always been a trademark in wedding gowns, but how the lace is distributed is questionable. Blogger Erika from Borrowed & Bleu anticipates a lot of lace this year, and she's probably right. Lace has made a comeback and with shows such as "Say Yes To The Dress," we have seen designers incorporate lace in more ways than one. Oh, and lace isn't just on the gown, it's on the sleeves, neckline, and the accessories. It is an elegant and classic look that can make the entire occasion come to life without too much hassle and an easy transition throughout the day.

Speaking of hassle-free, have you seen the pocket trend? Yes, wedding gowns are coming with pockets to make things more convenient. Weddings are emotional, and we can all agree with that. Between tissues, hand sanitizer, tic tacs (yes, they're needed for a quick freshen up), amongst others, pockets are a huge trend in the industry. But what does this have to do with weddings as a whole? Trends. Who's following them, who's creating them, and what do they have in store for the future.

Keep Your Standards HIGH!

As a female, and I know men who are just as guilty, shoes are a commonality for the average person. Whether you're a size 7 or size 10 (for women), or a size 8 or a size 15 (men), feet come in all shapes and sizes. For a female, one who loves fashion, finding the perfect shoe for a night out or even causal wear can be quite the journey. Pace University graduate, Jewel High, felt the same way, and with a drive and passion for fashion, Jewel High Collection emerged.

"I could never find beautiful shoes in my size because I wear a size 11," said Jewel High. "I took my frustration and decided to turn it into a dream, and for years, I taught myself different design techniques.

For someone who had no background in fashion design, but a goal to reach, Jewel High took her time to research the shoe industry and began attending shoe expos (so much fun!) to get her name and dream out in the public eye.

"My mentor came along and he's been in the industry for 30 years," said High. "He supplied me with vital information and confirmed that I was meant to be a shoe designer. With an accounting background, the business aspect came easy to me."

There's no doubt that someone with such a diverse background could achieve their goals that would not only benefit themselves, but others in similar situations. Jewel High has been patiently waiting for her moment to emerge, as she's more than ready for the release of Jewel High Collection, which is set to kick off this spring. Oh, and did I mention the t-shirts are fabulous!? They read " Heels High, Standards High, Jewel High".

A Glitter Affair

While in the Czech Republic, I haven't done much with myself in realm of cosmetology. Recently, I came across a little mini-nail salon in the mall that actually had decent prices. Originally I was just getting UV Gel, but I saw that the price for acrylics was remarkably lower, so I opted to that. The outcome? A glitter explosion!

Above: Blue, Purple, and Pink glitter acrylic.

The nail technician was very attentive, creative, and offered ideas. I had an option of basic nail color, as well as glitter acrylic! I absolutely loved it. For a quick express nail visit, I surely got the most out of it. Enjoy!

An Arena of Style

Happy Saturday everyone! So, I've been in Prague for about a week, and have visited various entities around the city. Today, however, my friend and I ventured off to a land we like to call "Mini-America." About 20 minutes from our apartment is a place that hit very close to home. Back in the states, we have what is known as the outlet malls or the "Commons," but here in Prague, it's called Fashion Arena Outlet Center.
You're probably thinking this is a regular outlet, and yes it is, however, it's a tad different. I don't think I've seen as many skate/surf shops in one area (not even Virginia Beach), as I have here in Prague. With 101 different stores, you're bound to come back with something, even if it's just chocolate (yes, there is a Lindt store, and yes, I did go crazy in it).
Fashion Arena Outlet Center is the go-to place for American fashion at a low cost. Don't be afraid. Oh, and there's free transportation from the train depot (you can drive if you prefer). Enjoy my loves!

Home Change Up

Totally not the norm, but for the past week that I've been in Virginia Beach, I have been recruited to help redecorate my grandparents' house. The project? The mid-decade paint job. Yes, I know five years is a little long, but the average person probably doesn't redecorate that often anyways. However, I have been to every Home-Depot and Loews in the area, and have learned a lot. So, what's the point of this article?

Stepping up in the game of life!

The most important thing to do in a home or apartment is make it brighter and bigger. Just because you have large furniture or lights in the area doesn't mean the space is just right. In my grandmother's house, the master bedroom has dark, cherry-wood furniture, light beige colored walls, and white trim, however, she and I both know the room isn't lit enough for our liking. The key to ensuring a home you can be proud of is going to the home improvement store, walking to the paint section, and snag color swatches. Crazy, yes, but it will save you money in the long run.

Currently, the goal I have set for the next week is to finalize the paint colors for the bedroom, bathrooms, and living spaces. When I make a decision, I'll let everyone know! If you're in the mood for some redecoration, get to the stores during the week (it's less crowded), grab an associate, and go to town. It'll be the best 30-60min you've ever spent in the paint section!
